When Amitabh Bachchan shared what changed after Aishwarya Rai joined the Bachchan family: ‘One daughter left…’ – The Indian Express

Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai got married in 2007 and have been married for over 16 years now. For Abhishek’s father, Amitabh Bachchan, who has worked with Aishwarya in films like Mohabbatein, Bunty Aur Babli, Kyun Ho Gaya Na, Abhishek’s and Aishwarya’s wedding was one of the most joyous occasions of his life. Years after their wedding, in 2018, when Bachchan was asked about what changed after Aishwarya joined the Bachchan family, he had the most loving response.
In a chat with Komal Nahta on Zee’s Starry Nights 2.0, when Bachchan was asked about it, he promptly said “nothing.” He then added, “One daughter left, another daughter came in.” Amitabh’s daughter Shweta got married in 1997 to Delhi based businessman Nikhil Nanda. Shweta’s mother-in-law Ritu Nanda was the daughter of actor-filmmaker Raj Kapoor.
Back in 2007, Jaya Bachchan said that Amitabh’s eyes light up when he sees Aishwarya. “Amitji, the minute he sees her (Aishwarya), it’s like he’s looking at Shweta coming home. His eyes light up. She’ll fill the vacuum that Shweta left. We have never been able to adjust that Shweta is not in the family, she is out and she is not a Bachchan. It’s tough,” she said.
Discussing her relationship with her daughter-in-law, Jaya had previously told Rediff, “She is my buddy. If I don’t like something about her, I tell it to her face. I don’t do politics behind her back. If she disagrees with me, she expresses herself. The only difference is that I can be a little more dramatic and she has to be more respectful.”
Recently, Aishwarya and Aaradhya were present for Amitabh’s 81st birthday. Daughter Shweta, granddaughter Navya Naveli, grandson Agastya and Jaya were all there to participate in the festivities. Shweta and Aishwarya shared photos from the occasion on social media as well.
