Russia Offers Elon Musk Political Asylum Amid Explosive Feud With Donald Trump – Live India

Moscow | June 7, 2025
As Elon Musk’s bitter feud with US President Donald Trump escalates, Russia has floated the possibility of offering political asylum to the SpaceX and Tesla CEO. The suggestion came from Dmitry Novikov, First Deputy Chairman of Russia’s State Duma Committee on International Affairs, in an interview with Russian news agency TASS.

“I think Musk is playing a deeper game and may not need asylum,” Novikov said. “But if it came to that, Russia would be willing to offer it — just as we did for Edward Snowden.
The comments come amid a storm of controversy in the United States, where former White House strategist Steve Bannon has publicly called for Musk’s deportation, accusing him of being “an illegal alien.” Bannon also demanded that the US government seize control of SpaceX under the Defence Production Act, after Musk threatened to decommission the Dragon spacecraft, NASA’s only active astronaut transport.

“Musk is a national security risk. He should be deported, and SpaceX brought under government control,” Bannon said.
Musk has yet to respond directly to the remarks, but the tech mogul’s recent comments — including his claim that he left the US only for a “prescheduled visit” and never fled justice — have triggered a political firestorm.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov declined to comment directly on the Musk-Trump feud, saying only:
“This is a domestic issue of the United States. We will not interfere.”
Still, Novikov’s remarks underscore Russia’s willingness to capitalize on divisions in the West, particularly when it involves high-profile tech leaders like Musk.
Russia has previously granted asylum to Edward Snowden, the former NSA whistleblower who leaked classified surveillance programs in 2013. Moscow also granted refuge to pro-Kremlin blogger Graham Phillips from the UK, raising questions about whether it would extend similar protections to Musk — should he request them.
Novikov, a member of the Communist Party, hinted that Musk’s ideological rift with the Democratic Party and his high-stakes standoff with Trump could evolve into deeper geopolitical significance.
“There are tactical disagreements and strategic alignments. Musk will pursue what he sees as long-term interests,” he added.
