गौरतलब है कि रोहित शर्मा और विराट कोहली जैसे सुपरस्टार खिलाड़ियों ने भारत को 2024 टी20 विश्व कप जिताने के बाद 20 इंटरनेशनल से संन्यास ले लिया है. अब भारतीय टीम युवा खिलाड़ियों के साथ इस फॉर्मेट में खेलती दिखेगी. ऐसे में पोंटिंग ने ऐसे खिलाड़ी को लेकर बात की है, जो आने वाले समय में इन दिग्गजों की तरह सुपरस्टार बनेगा और वर्ल्ड क्रिकेट पर राज करेगा.
रिकी पोंटिंग का मानना है कि आईपीएल में चेन्नई सुपर किंग्स की कप्तानी करने वाले ऋतुराज गायकवाड़ भारतीय क्रिकेट के अगले सुपरस्टार होंगे. बता दें कि गायकवाड़ हाल ही में जिम्बाब्वे के खिलाफ सीरीज में भारत के लिए खेले थे. इस सीरीज के चार मैचों में गायकवाड़ ने 66.50 की औसत और 158.33 के स्ट्राइक रेट से 133 रन बनाए. गायकवाड़ को किंग कोहली के रिप्लेसमेंट के रूप में देखा जा रहा है.
ऋतुराज गायकवाड़ अब तक भारत के लिए 23 टी20 इंटरनेशनल खेल चुके हैं. इस दौरान उनके बल्ले से 633 रन निकले हैं. टी20 इंटरनेशनल में गायकवाड़ ऑस्ट्रेलिया के खिलाफ शतक भी लगा चुके हैं. उनके नाम एक शतक और चार अर्धशतक हैं. वहीं गायकवाड़ ने आईपीएल में कुल 66 मैच खेले हैं. आईपीएल में गायकवाड़ दो शतक लगा चुके हैं. उनके नाम विश्व की सबसे बड़ी फ्रेंचाइजी लीग में 2380 रन हैं.
श्रीलंका के खिलाफ 27 जुलाई से टी20 सीरीज
जिम्बाब्वे के बाद अब टीम इंडिया श्रीलंका दौरे पर जाएगी. श्रीलंका में भारतीय टीम तीन मैचों की टी20 सीरीज और इतने ही मैचों की वनडे सीरीज खेलेगी. भारत के श्रीलंका दौरे की शुरुआत 27 जुलाई को पहले टी20 के साथ होगी. हालांकि, अभी बीसीसीआई ने इस दौरे के लिए टीम का एलान नहीं किया है.
