Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday inaugurated the new campus of Nalanda University at Rajgir in Bihar. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Bihar Governor Rajendra Arlekar, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy CMs Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Sinha and other delegates were present at the new campus of Nalanda University.
Meanwhile, a video featuring an unexpected interaction between Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi has gone viral on social media.
The incident occurred shortly after the two leaders attended the inauguration ceremony of the new Nalanda University campus. In the video, Nitish Kumar, seated next to PM Modi, unexpectedly grabs the Prime Minister's hand and checks his index finger for the indelible voting ink, catching him off guard. As the Prime Minister leans towards him, Kumar appears to check PM Modi's index finger. Subsequently, Kumar shows his own left index finger to the Prime Minister. This brief yet intriguing interaction has garnered significant attention, with the video quickly going viral on social media.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new campus of Nalanda University and also visited the ruins of the ancient Nalanda University. Before inaugurating the new campus, Modi visited the ‘Nalanda Mahavihara’, a UNESCO world heritage site located close to the varsity. The educational institute was established through the Nalanda University Act in 2010 and it started functioning in 2014. The ancient Nalanda University, which existed since the fifth century, attracted students from all over the world. It flourished for 800 years before being destroyed by invaders in the 12th century, according to experts.
It should be mentioned here that Nalanda Mahavihara was founded by Kumargupta I of the Gupta dynasty in the 5th century CE. It was patronized by various rulers including King Harshavardhana of Kannauj (7th century CE) and the Pala rulers (8th–12th century CE) as well as various scholars. The archaeological site of Nalanda Mahavihara is protected, maintained and managed by the ASI.
