India vs England Live Score Updates, 1st Test Day 2: Ind vs Eng, India finished the Day 2 with 421/7 on scoreboard after 110 overs, with a lead of 175 runs, while playing their first Test against England at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on 26 January.
India, which scored 119/1 in 23 overs on Day 1 in response to England’s 246, lost the wicket of Yashasvi Jaiswal (80) in the 24th over to Joe Root and Shubman Gill (23) to Tom Hartley in the 35th over.
Following this, KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer set a good partnership. By Lunch, India scored 222/3 in 50 overs (KL Rahul 55, SS Iyer 34).
However, Rehan Ahmed picked up the wicket of Shreyas Iyer (35) in the 53rd over, while Hartley picked Rahul’s (86) wicket in the 65th over.
Ravindra Jadeja then set a partenrship with Srikar Bharat (41), who was LWB out by Joe Root in the 89th over. A sad dismissal of Ashwin just followed as he was run out by Foakes in the 91st over.
After this, both Jadeja (81*) and Axar Patel (35*) kept the momentum going and gave India the lead of 175 runs. At Day break, India scored 421/7 in 110 overs.
For England, Tom Hartley and Joe Root picked two wickets each, while Jack Leach and Rehan Ahmed clinched one each.
India had a great first session of the day scoring 103 runs and losing 2 crucial wickets in the form of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill.
On the first day, India, led by the aggressive efforts of young Yashasvi Jaiswal, posted 119 runs for the loss of just one wicket in the form of skipper Rohit Sharma. Meanwhile, Shubman Gill looking comfortable at the crease, batting on 14, and will be keen to capitalise on his good start.
While Rohit and Jaiswal got India off to a good start, the Indian captain eventually lost his wicket to Jack Leach for 24. It was the fifth time Leach had beaten the Indian veteran in a Test match.
However, Jaiswal (76*) continued his attack, and set a partnership with Shubman Gill (14*), taking India to 119/1 in 23 overs.
For England, only Jack Leach was the successful bowler. Apart from him, other spinners appeared mostly ineffective against Yashasvi’s attacking batting approach.
Earlier, after losing the toss, and batting first, England managed to score 246 runs and lost all wickets in the 64.3 overs at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad post Tea Break.
For England, skipper Ben Stokes made the maximum runs (70) before Jasprit Bumrah sent him to pavilion in the 64.3 over. Apart for this, Jonny Bairstow (37), Ben Duckett (35) and Joe Root (29) could only spent some time on the crease.
For the Indian side, both Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja picked three wickets each, while Axar Patel and Jasprit Bumrah took two wickets each.
Ben Stokes stood alone in the second session as he battled the Indian spin attack with full-on Test match batting showing a mixture of class, patience and aggression when needed. Stokes scored his fifty in 69 balls.
Ahead of the series, the Indian team received a shock when veteran batsman Virat Kohli pulled out of the first two Tests citing ‘personal reasons’. The BCCI have roped in Madhya Pradesh opener and Kohli’s RCB teammate Rajat Patidar to take the GOAT’s place in the Indian line-up for the first two matches.
