Experts say the actual number of Covid-19 cases is likely to be much higher. “Not many people are getting the tests done as symptoms are mild and self-limiting,” a senior doctor said, adding that mandatory tests for symptomatic individuals aren’t necessary at present. However, he added, surveillance should be continued to detect any sign of clustering of cases or increase in hospitalisation due to the disease at an early stage for timely warning and action.

“In view of rising Covid-19 cases in the district, precautionary measures to contain the spread of Covid-19… are hereby ordered to be followed strictly.

‘We are people of action’: Haryana CM laments over 2 years of Covid
Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar admitted that Covid has affected the developmental works and the public could have been served better if there was no Covid, adding that the BJP are people of action. “Whether it is an election year or not, it does not matter so much for us because we are people of action and do our work continuously. If we have troubles, they are due to Covid. Because our two years were wasted in that, less work was done. The public could not be served as much as they should have been,” said Manohar Lal Khattar. “But the way Covid has been tackled under the leadership of PM Modi across the country is also a big achievement and we will continue to serve the public. In the upcoming election, the BJP will become the most influential party across the country,” he added. (ANI)

India recorded a spike of 636 coronavirus infections in 24-hour period
India recorded a spike of 636 coronavirus infections in 24-hour period, according to Union health ministry data released on Monday. India’s active Covid-19 touched 4394.
Overall, the number of states/UTs that reported Covid cases in the past week stood at 20, more than double the number in December 15, when around eight-nine states were logging fresh infections.

Karnataka reported 922 fresh infections in the week, up three-fold from 309 in the previous seven days. Similarly, Maharashtra cases rose from 103 in the previous week to 620.

While cases are dipping in Kerala, they are rising in several other states, particularly Karnataka and Maharashtra — the only states apart from Kerala where the daily count of cases has topped 100.

The state accounted for less than 50% of all cases recorded in the country where last week the state’s share was nearly 80%.

Significantly, Kerala logged 2,282 fresh cases during the week, a 24% drop from the previous week when the tally was 3,018 — indicating that the surge may have already peaked , after a surge lasting only around four weeks or so.

There were 29 deaths from the virus in the week, up from 17. On Saturday (numbers reported Sunday), the daily tally rose to 841, highest since May 18 this year, along with three fatalities.

India reported 4,652 fresh Covid cases during the week ending Saturday (December 24-30) as against 3,818 in the previous seven days.

While the overall numbers remain very low and the rise has been gradual – possibly because of sparse testing and a large number of cases remaining mild – data shows that the JN.1-driven surge is spreading across the country and that infections may already have peaked in Kerala, the state logging the highest counts in the current phase.

India recorded a 22% rise in Covid cases this week as compared to the last, with the tally in the past 24 hours crossing 800 for the first time in seven months.
