In just a week since the commencement of the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League, multiple records have already tumbled.
From breaking the record for the most number of half-centuries by an Indian player to witnessing the all-time highest team score record being shattered, it has been an eventful week.
The clash between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians encapsulated this trend, as an inspired bowling performance at the death prevented Mumbai Indians from successfully chasing the target.
At the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on 27th March, Sunrisers Hyderabad, after being put in to bat first, showed no mercy to the Mumbai Indians’ bowling lineup. With the exception of Jasprit Bumrah, every bowler leaked runs, making it a forgettable debut night for South African youngster Kwena Maphaka
With the exception of Mayank Agarwal, all the Sunrisers batsmen swung their bats at a strike rate higher than 200. Heinrich Klaasen and Aiden Markram played pivotal roles in ensuring that the Hyderabad outfit broke the all-time record for the highest team score.
In a post, the Pakistani international cricketer mocked the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, stating that it features flat pitches, small boundaries, and a lightning-quick outfield. He further extended his criticism to the Indian Premier League, mocking the nature of the league.
Mumbai Indians left no stone unturned in their pursuit of the humongous target. They reached 50 runs in just three overs and continued their onslaught to reach 100 runs within eight overs. At the halfway mark, the target seemed within reach.
However, Pat Cummins and Jaydev Unadkat turned the tide, securing a 31-run victory. With a total of 523 runs scored in the game, a first in IPL history, Junaid Khan sarcastically questioned whether this was real cricket or just a game of stick cricket.
In their next Indian Premier League encounter, Sunrisers Hyderabad will face off against Gujarat Titans, while the Mumbai Indians will aim to bounce back from two consecutive losses as they gear up to take on the Rajasthan Royals on 1st April.

Delhi Capitals (DC) fans are buzzing with excitement as Rishabh Pant, the dynamic left-hand batter and captain of the team, reaches a remarkable milestone in his IPL career.
Rajasthan Royals faced a daunting challenge against the Delhi Capitals, with their batting lineup crumbling early in the innings. After opting to bat first and losing key wickets in the first 10 overs, the Royals were banking on Ravichandran Ashwin to steer them towards a respectable total.
Ravi Ashwin is a legend of the game and he is known all over the world for his crafty off-break. However, he is a handy batter too which was again on display in the 9th match of IPL 2024 between Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals. Ashwin walked out to bat at number 5 after RR lost three early wickets and brought impetus to the innings with his brief cameo of 29 off 19 balls.
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will be playing against the Kolkata Kinght Riders (KKR) in the 10th match of the IPL 2024. Before the game goes live, here is a look at the top captain and vice-captain choices, the important player stats and the players you can stay away from for this match.
